Our Story
God as our cornerstone
Trinity Lutheran Church is a community of faith.
Our story is about people seeking a positive, life-giving relationship with God. It is made possible by God’s love, goes through the cross of Jesus, and brings healing to human brokenness. It is told in person, in writing, and most recently, online. Trinity’s story as a congregation starts in 1947, but our history starts much earlier.
Our Beginning
We trace our roots back to the origin of the cosmos, as God created the world, made people good, and invited us to help with God’s work. From the earliest days on, people often lived in harmony with God, but sometimes thought of themselves first and acted in ways that injured our connection with God and others. This should have cut us off from God entirely, but God came up with a plan to heal the relationship.
From Abraham & Sarah to Jesus Christ
God took one particular family, Abraham and Sarah, and made their descendants into a great nation, Israel. Through this nation, God sent a Savior, Jesus. Jesus lived a perfect life, and died for our sins.
The Good News through the generations
Death could not hold Jesus. When he died, he took our sin to the cross, and when he rose, he left it there. Our relationship with God was restored, and we were promised eternal life. Through the years, the good news of God’s work in Jesus has been passed down from person to person.
1947
In 1947, a group of believers founded Trinity Lutheran Church to help people connect with God. We originally met in the upstairs room of the L.D. Fargo Library
1952
In 1952, with much work from many members, the congregation moved the “little white church” building from Milford, WI to Mulberry St. It served as a house of worship and a base of ministry operations until 1971.
1971
Having outgrown the building on Mulberry St., the congregation purchased 5.3 acres between Pine St. and Prospect St. in 1968. Following construction, Trinity dedicated a new church building in 1971. This house of worship has served as the base of much ministry and is still part of Trinity’s present base of operations.
1988
In 1988, in response to the need for an independent living community in the area for residents 60 and above, Trinity used a portion of its land to build Trinity Pines. “The Pines” is a blessing for area residents who are able-bodied and social but are ready to move out of their homes and let someone else do the maintenance.
2002
Trinity added the a new sanctuary onto the building to provide more space for ministry.
